Paradox Albino Hognose

Last year at our facility we bred many different hognoses. From these, two paradox albino hognoses were produced. Photos seen above.  Paradox is the term given to a snake that possesses two or more genetic traits simultaneously. It is produced by breeding an albino to a heterozygous for albino.  The Paradox offspring possesses both the albino and the normal colour. It may be predominately albino with flecks of normal colouring or visa versa 1. In this case the hognoses are predominately albino with flecks of normal colour.

It is difficult to determine which male and female produced these offspring as multiple males are breed with each female to increase fertility rates and multiple egg clutches are incubated together.

This is an ongoing project, in the near future we aim to breed the male and female featured above back together and we will monitor all offspring produced this year to see if this trait pops up again.

In theory any of our offspring could produce this trait. Please refer to the availability page for hognoses currently for sale.
